For beginners the most basic technique in Backgammon is 'Blocking'. With the blocking technique, you may be able to control the movement of your opponent. To put to your side the tune of the game you must avoid having too much 'open triangles'. Some other basic technique are pretending, psyching, and sacrificing. One may pretend to be new to the game to have his opponent unaware. You can also use the psyche card if the situation is called for.
